Purpose of the Charity
CHROME was registered as a charity in 1994 and seeks to identify as many severely disabled ME sufferers as possible in the UK, to monitor the course of their illness, to analyse the statistical data obtained to supplement medical research.
General Report
The charity continues to pursue its purposes, analysing the data and continuing to work on the publication of sample stories charting the progress of the illness.
The Trustees record their thanks to the Research Team led by Ken Manley and to all who have continued to provide and analyse data for our research.
The Bulletin continues to be circulated every six months with help from friends in Manchester.
During the year trustees have collaborated with other charities and bodies in the same area of concern such as PRIME, Partnership for Research in CFS and ME, the ME Alliance, Action for ME and the 25% Group.
The Accounts
The Trustees have prepared the Accounts using the Receipts and Payments method.
In 2004 year income exceeded expenditure by a small margin but this year the position has been reversed, largely due to increased essential work on typing data from individual records for analysis. The deficit has been met by drawing from reserves. The Trustees consider that the reserves are sufficient to supplement income for some years to come and are appropriately used for this purpose. This position will be kept under review.
2. Report of Independent Examination:
I, James Lowe. of 7 Pinewood Close, Heaton Mersey, Stockport
have carried out an independent examination in respect of the Charity CHROME and report as hereunder:
Respective duties of trustees and examiner.
As charity trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts; you consider that the audit requirements of section 43 (2) of the Charities Act 1993 do not apply. It is my responsibility to state, on the basis of the procedures specified in the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners under Section 43 (7) 0f the Act, whether any particular matters have come to my attention.
Independent examiners statement
The independent examination covers periods 1st September 2004 to 31st August 2005, and was carried out within the laid down procedures under section 43 of the Charities Act 1993, and in accordance with any directions given by the Commissioners under sub-section (7)(b) of that section which are applicable.
During the examination, no matter came to my notice or attention which gave me cause to doubt the accounting records of the Charity in accordance with section 41 of the Charities Act 1993.
There are no matters which have come to my attention in connection with the examination which, in my opinion, should be reported in order to enable a proper understanding of the Accounts to be reached. All expenditure is of a nature to be in accordance with the Charity, and all information to which I am entitled under Regulation 8 has been supplied to me.
